Lead in faucet parts is a significant issue, especially with reverse osmosis units. Reverse osmosis removes lead as well as a great part—up to 98%—of the “total dissolved solids” (TDS) in tap water. The reduced solids content makes reverse osmosis water much more “aggressive” and therefore more prone to leach metals like lead from the interior parts of faucets.

A few years ago this was a problem because of the inner brass parts of ledge faucets used in drinking water systems. Brass contains lead.

All faucets that we sell comply with Federal Safe Drinking Water Standards. Many faucet manufacturers now use plastic liners in the base studs of all non-stainless faucets to prevent the leaching of metals. Some of our faucets carry NSF certification and some comply with federal standards or the more rigid California standards set forth in California Proposition 65.

Our "generic" faucets all have stainless steel base studs.
